We are looking for an outstanding Pattern Manager to join our The North Face Team in Stabio, Switzerland, reporting to the Apparel Development Director.

What will you do?

As a Pattern Manager you will be responsible for leading the technical development of new concepts, innovation and brand fit blocks.  Driving excellence in fit, pattern engineering and construction specifications for products across all categories.  Establishing pattern blocks and the creation of new concepts delivering on design’s aesthetic and fit intent.  Drives product excellence in new innovative product with a strong consumer focus.

Primary accountabilities:

  • Apparel lead in relation of pattern and fit strategy, execution and tracking of fit, blocks and pattern construction.
  • Establish and maintain clear brand fit standards across all product categories.
  • Ensures execution of fit intent and fit consistency through clear analysis, documentation, training, communication, adherence to fit standards, and development of block patterns.
  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of the fit block library, patterns, documentation, revision log and distribute to business partners as appropriate.
  • Leading seasonal review of all fit blocks implementing changes where relevant.
  • Support and guide the Development department in planning an aligned and cohesive FIT strategy and execution.
  • Research current market fit trends in terms of fit and pattern comparing to our established fit standards and share findings seasonally with the product team.
  • Conduct seasonal review of all fit blocks implementing changes where relevant.
  • Work with Product Development and Design on new advanced concepts and ideas carrying out in depth research and analysis to develop new categories and product innovation.
  • Compare factory patterns against blocks for fit consistency and adherence in and analyze grade to follow spec standards and adjust for style constraints.
  • Participate in expanding the use of 3D imagery
  • Create 3D product utilizing designated tools, Browzwear, Clo3D to provide visual representation of new silhouettes and blocks
  • Build 3D fit block assets in collaboration with designers and developers, testing output and validating through actual garments. 
  • Develop process and training materials for Fit, Pattern and 3D – Training/onboarding Vendors, Design, and Tech Design teams.
  • Partner with Developers and Vendors to resolve any potential production issues
  • Manage / coach the pattern team members
  • Collaborate across regions to ensure global fit alignment and partner on all global fit projects.

What you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Pattern Making, Product Development or Textiles
  • 15+ years experience in Pattern Making/Product Development in a medium or large size company, preferably in the outdoor / performance sportswear
  • 5+ years in team management
  • Computer skills:  Gerber experience (or other patternmaking system), PLM experience, Adobe Illustrator, MS Office software, experience with 3D software (e.g. Clo, Browzwear) is an asset
  • Demonstrates an advanced expertise in patternmaking, fit, construction, and knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Able to independently research, develop and manage highly complex product
  • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of diverse product categories, product materials, and product development lifecycle
  • Able to train and mentor developers in fit or develop a diverse and effective team through active coaching, motivation, and meaningful development plans
  • Skilled in project leadership with superior organizational skills
  • Ability to be flexible in a multi-task environment
  • A strong team player with the ability to collaborate cross functionally.
  • A keen interest in innovation and a passion for product
  • Deadline driven with a track record for delivering great results on time
  • An excellent understanding of the English language, both written and verbal particularly in terms of apparel development language.

Travel: 10-20% (in normal times)
