Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization: 

Drive the development and innovation of Running FTW material & technology, with a key focus on elite racing & competition product. Alongside the Elite Racing development and technical team, ensure material developments and selections enable event-specific performance gains.   

    

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Be the key contact and consultant for all elite racing foam & material related questions for all internal interfaces 

  • Work with the elite racing development team in-order to provide direction and leadership on foam and material innovation and strategy. Ensure the shared elite racing product and material goals are maintained and delivered in a broad x-functional environment 

  • Build and maintain a close relationship with interfaces such as Design, Creation Center Product Development, Material Sourcing, Quality and T2/T1 Suppliers 

  • Establish and expand on our foam supplier network in-order to proactively bring new, event specific, performance enhancing foam innovations 

  • Ensure availability of correct material data in PDM (technical data, cost, toolbox, lifecycle) 

  • Initiate and monitor all elite racing material developments (work together with suppliers, Sourcing, Quality, Innovation Management and MDI innovation Managers)  

  • Research, develop and innovate on foam & material technologies, in order to bring measurable, event and discipline-specific benefits to elite racing  performance FTW 

  • Ensure that all selected materials are being tested and approved by Footwear Quality in accordance with applicable calendar timelines 

  • Create and maintain the sustainability material performance toolbox for elite racing footwear materials,  midsole foams and stiffening components 

  • Manage the co-ordination and alignment between upstream elite racing counterparts (i.e. ONE Innovation), in order to facilitate short, mid and long-term material concept creation 

  • Contribute towards consistent competitor benchmarking analysis. Gather knowledge, expertise and insight on competitor racing materials and product, and fully utilize this knowledge for the betterment of adidas elite racing FTW materials and technology   

  • Understand and fully utilize biomechanical principals, developing and validating performance materials and technologies with unique event-specific biomechanical requirements in mind 

  • Manage and navigate a complex legal and WA regulation landscape 

  • Collaborate with elite racing tech management counterpart, contributing material knowledge to 2D/3D creation, bottom unit construction and mass manufacture topics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Advanced technical material knowledge (foams, stiffening elements, upper technology)  

  • Competent understanding of mold making principals 

  • Awareness of basic chemical engineering principals, contributing to foam properties and behavior  

  • Advanced communication skills, especially when interacting with different levels of business 

  • Interest and awareness of current running and T&F performance product  

  • Ability to create, plan and effectively deliver presentations in formal and informal settings 

  • Ability to anticipate problems, offers solutions, and address issues with materials in-order to meet the Design team’s aesthetic goals and financial targets 

  • Ability to cope with change 

  • Ability to work independently or with limited guidance 

  • Ability to accept and meet critical deadlines with good planning and organization skills 

  • Fluent English (verbal and written) 

  • Strong IT skills (e-mail, MS office) 

  

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:  

  • College or university degree in material, chemical or textile engineering or comparable degree/education 

  • Minimum of 2-3 years work experience in the chemical or fabric production industry (knowledge of manufacturing process, foams, mechanical and chemical treatments
