Purpose:

                    Design and influence others in innovating executions of Footwear through Materials, construction, executions and colors.

                    Focused on being an expert and industry leading Materials specialist.

Key Relationships:

                    CREATIVE DIRECTION

                    Seeks out, understands, and contributes to information needed to design cultural and brand relevant product. 

                    Should include all possible sources to gain this information:

•Trade fairs, cultural events, consumer insights

•Trade publications, general interest press, trend services, fashion and sportswear magazines and websites

•Store checks, market visits, and team travel as provided

•Industry news in material innovation and manufacturing

•Share and distribute findings

•Supplier insights

                    Is a key stake holder in driving Originals seasonal and long-term design direction within the following topics:

                    •Footwear Material and color, with a focus on Material

                    •Seasonal Material and Brand narrative

                    •Long-term Material strategy

                    •Footwear Materials innovation

                    Is a key stake holder in driving a forementioned Originals design direction by, but not limited to:

•Contribute in trend forecasting content relevant to our consumer and brand

•Contribute in providing technical advanced Material ideation and concepts using functional insights and a strong aesthetic eye

•Acts as a brand ambassador between all categories looking for opportunities to connect direction, product and people

•Assisting in creating Material and color design direction presentations

•Working with local and global counterparts to provide category relative color and Material direction and executions when required

                    Works closely with various internal and external partners. This includes but is not limited to:

                    •Collaboration and critiquing within Creative Direction’s and Originals Color, Material, and Graphics teams

                    •Collaboration and clear communication with suppliers and development to collect input and feedback

                    •Works closely with Business Units to collect input and feedback

                    •Communication and collaboration with Advanced Design and Futures to collect input and feedback

                    •Works closely with Development to assist in development of process, manufacturing, and costing

                    •Assists in communicating inspiration and storytelling to Design and Marketing

                    •Works closely with Testing to ensure quality

                    •Acts as a brand ambassador between all functions looking for opportunities to educate and connect direction, product, and people

                    •Sets a leading example within the team and mentors others

                    •Viewed within the team as an expert in their field

                    •Finds new external partners and presents open source opportunities

                    Builds top-line strategy into material concepts. This includes but is not limited to:

                    •Leads as a specialist expert in creating and curating holistic overviews of material concepts(e.g. constant & seasonal material boards) and material innovation

                    •Continually innovates material concepts to create generations of technology

                    •Inform horizontal material concepts across the Business Unit

                    •Leads as a specialist expert in the sectors of internal speed programs (e.g. PR library, material consolidation)

                    MATERIAL EXECUTION

Leads in designing, innovating, and developing Footwear Material with input from Originals Design Direction, Creative Direction, Design, Marketing, and Development. This includes but is not limited to:

                    •Seasonal prep and research stated above

                    •Design technical and innovative Materials with attention to look, feel, and function

                    •Create industry leading material innovations, executions and constructions

                    •Create material innovations with consideration of sustainability and efficiencies

                    •Assists in creating design presentations; both physical and digital

                    •Exploratory process to reach final solution

                    •Creates Color and Material drawings and tech packs

                    Has experienced knowledge and a higher understanding of product, construction, executions and the business.

                    •Apple Mac Operating system

                    •3D not required, but beneficial

                    •Ability to understand and create design concepts and think conceptually

                    •Ability to create designs that culturally innovate for the consumer’s needs

                    •Ability to operate in a fast pace, ever changing work environment

                    •Works well in a team environment. This position requires employee to engage with many stakeholders, as well as manage various information and relationships

                    •Manufacturing

                    •Construction

                    •Development process

                    •Strong presentation skills

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

                    •Preferably a BSc or MSc in Design, Textiles, Textile Design, Textile Management, or Bachelor Degree in similar design fields

                    •Direct experience in textile, footwear, fashion or and design relevant environment

                    •Thorough knowledge of art and design with clear understanding of visual design or any design related environment

                    •6 years relevant work experience

                    •Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for degree
